ARN Competencies Assessment Tool

ARN-CAT is perfect for Nurse Managers, Administrators, Educators, or Case Managers, who need a simple way to evaluate staff competency in the basic areas of rehabilitation nursing. The next time you need to provide evidence of competency to JCAHO, or to test your staff’s knowledge to meet internal education goals, or evaluate the proficiency of visiting/floating nurses, think of ARN.

ARN-CAT is not only easy to use, but free to you and your staff!

ARN-CAT encompasses 14 basic rehabilitation nursing competency areas. Each assessment can be completed as many times as is deemed necessary and the results page will include the user’s name and the number of times s/he has completed an assessment for that competency. It is recommended that each supervisor determine a satisfactory score for their staff and develop a means for tracking the information.

How to Use

1. Select a competency area from the list below. You will be linked to multiple choice assessment questions related to that topic area.

2. Answer all of the assessment questions and click the “Score Assessment” button. Enter the requested login information.

3. The assessment results will be provided instantly, including whether or not each question was answered correctly, the rationale for the question, and the source material used to develop that question.

4. Print the results as a record of completion and as a guide for further education. Note: If you do not print your results page, you will lose your record of completion.
