2023 ARN Member Awards and Scholarships

ARN offers members an opportunity to acknowledge peers and colleagues for their exemplary work and service. Exceptional rehabilitation nurses deserve recognition for their contributions to rehabilitation nursing. Supervisors, colleagues, or family members can submit nominations. Some awards are self-nominating and ARN members can nominate themselves!

The 2023 ARN Member Awards and Scholarships are now closed. The deadline to apply for the Member Awards was June 15, 2023.

Winners will be contacted in July and will be announced in August.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Mary Ann Mikulic Scholarship

Attend ARN's 2023 Rehab Nursing Conference
The Mary Ann Mikulic Scholarship covers one full hybrid registration fee for a first-time attendee to ARN’s 2023 Rehabilitation Nursing Conference. Attend the conference both in-person in Providence, RI and virtually to earn continuing education credits and connect with your rehab nursing community.

Value: $799+

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Must be an active ARN Member
  • Must be an active Registered Nurse currently practicing in the specialty of rehabilitation nursing
  • Must be a first-time conference goer and have never previously attended an ARN conference

The scholarship covers the registration fee for one nurse. Transportation to and from the conference as well as accommodations while at the meeting must be covered by the scholarship recipient.

Bachelor of Science (BSN) Scholarship

Apply to earn financial assistance in rehabilitation nursing from ARN
The ARN scholarship program provides financial assistance to rehabilitation nurses working toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. 

Award: $1,500

Eligibility:
Rehabilitation nurses who meet these criteria are eligible for the scholarship:

  • Must be an active ARN member
  • Current enrollment in a BSN degree program, in good standing, and successful completion of at least one course.
  • Current practice in rehabilitation nursing.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in rehabilitation nursing.

Members of the ARN Board of Directors and their staff are not eligible for the scholarships.

Graduate School Scholarship

Apply to earn financial assistance for your graduate school from ARN
ARN offers financial assistance in the form of a scholarship to nurses working toward a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a doctorate degree in nursing (PhD, DNP, DNS/DNSc).


Award:
$1,500

Eligibility:

  • Membership and involvement in ARN
  • Current enrollment in a graduate level degree program, in good standing, and successful completion of at least one course
  • Current practice in rehabilitation nursing
  • Minimum of two years of experience in rehabilitation nursing
  • CRRN is preferred, but not required

 

AWARDS

Direct Patient Care Award

This award recognizes outstanding practice by a rehabilitation nurse in a direct patient care role.

Do you know a colleague, family member, or fellow rehabilitation nurse that deserves an award for their role in direct patient care? Apply for them to be considered for the Direct Patient Care Award. Individuals classified as nurse managers or nurse specialists are not eligible to apply for the staff nurse award.

Tip for your nomination: Contact the nominee’s Vice-President of Nursing, manager, etc. for specific examples to demonstrate why they meet the award criteria.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an active ARN member
  • Employed as rehabilitation nurse practicing in a direct patient care role
  • CRRN certification is required

Leadership Award

This award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse superior leadership skills when faced with a specific challenge within their setting (unit, facility, hospital, or organization/system).

Through their efforts, they will have advanced rehabilitation nursing practice; or made positive changes that benefit patients, rehabilitation nurses, or allied professions. Many individuals may be involved with addressing a specific situation, but the nominee should have taken a primary role in addressing the challenge and driving the outcome.

Nomination: Applicant is submitting a nominee, or self-nominating.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an active ARN member
  • CRRN certification is required

Patient Advocacy Award

This award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse who has demonstrated leadership and collaboration while advocating for outstanding patient care.

Have you or a colleague recently demonstrated leadership and collaboration while advocating for outstanding patient care? Areas for advocacy may include:

  • Improving patient resources
  • Increasing access to care
  • Providing education to elected officials or community members (e.g. helping elected officials understand how an issue impacts rehabilitation nursing patients and providers or acting as a resource to community members to help navigate the healthcare system)  

Nomination: Applicant is submitting a nominee, or self-nominating.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an active ARN member
  • CRRN certification is required

Nurse Educator Award

This award recognizes a nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care through an academic or educational role.

Nominate someone who demonstrate leadership ability and effectiveness in the educational development and mentoring of rehabilitation nurses or students and support the advancement of rehabilitation nurses through continuing or formal education would be appropriate nominees for this award.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an active ARN member
  • Must have a minimum of a BSN degree
  • Must be employed as a nurse practicing in an academic or education role
  • CRRN certification is required
